Prayer and Liturgy

Prayer, worship and liturgical celebration

Prayer, worship and liturgical celebration are central to our Catholic tradition and form an integral part of our school day.  Prayer is encouraged in a variety of methods; whole school prayer, group prayer and private individual prayer.

Children take part in a daily act of worship and formal prayers are used to start and end the school day and also at lunchtimes.  Older children plan and lead acts of worship within their classes as part of their collective worship.  In each class there is a collective worship book where pictures, planning templates and children's responses are kept as a reminder and record of the acts of worship.

Children take part in key stage liturgies which are usually centred around global issues, British and Catholic values.

We also recognise and celebrate children's achievements, both in and out of school, during our weekly Well Done Celebration.

Our Worship Area

Each child has access to a prayer area in the classroom, which includes a prayer focus and collective worship book, along with Bibles and resources relevant to each class.

We have a wonderful prayer garden in our lower playground.  Children enjoy spending time in this quiet space during break and lunchtimes.  They can spend time to sit and reflect and use their prayer stones.

We also have a worship area near our library within school.  Children enjoy accessing this quiet space during various times of the day.  They can sit and write prayers, write or read the messages on the Prayer Board or just sit and reflect.

Morning Prayer

Father in heaven, you love me,

You're with me night and day.

I want to love you always

In all I do and say.

I'll try to please you, Father.

Bless me through the day.

Amen.

Grace before meals

Bless us, O Lord, as we sit together,

Bless the food we eat today.

Bless the hands that make the food.

Bless us, O Lord.

Amen.

End of the day prayer

God our Father, we come to say

Thank you for your love today.

Thank you for my family,

And all the friends you give to me.

Guard me in the dark of night,

And in the morning send your light.

Amen.
