Nursery topic

This Spring term we are learning Rhymes and stories, that are inspired by the interests of the children. We will look at rhymes from around the world including Glowa, Ramiona, Kolona, Piente ( Head, Shoulders, Knees, and Toes) From Poland. Itzi bitzi araña (Incy Wincy Spider) in Spanish, and العربية للأطفال  (Itsy Bitsy Spider) in Arabic.  Some of the children have demonstrated a great interest for animals, we will  be learning the songs 5 naughty monkeys and Little Cat by Nancy Stewart, and also read the Counting story Flamingo Flo. In the morning session of our nursery, a group of boys have been showing demonstrating really great interest in cars, and monsters, involving lots of language and intricate story lines.  We will also use The Meanies from the Meanies story, by Joy Cowley, who have taken all our toy cars in the nursery as a starting point to inspire letter writing to the Meanies, Map making to look for our cars, counting and discussions about feelings and actions affecting other people. Within this topic we will also be building on our awareness of rhyme and alliteration, working on our listening and attention skills, and ability to retell and recall main events of a story. In Mathematics, we are learning that numbers identify how many objects are in a set and working on being able to choose a specified amount of objects from a larger group of objects.
