Every Child a Reader

We have our own, in house, 'Reading Recovery', specialist teacher.

Colette Northage runs a highly sucessful scheme called 'Every Child a Reader' in Year 1 and 2, taking children who are struggling and building them into competent, confident readers. Tackling difficulties at this early stage makes a huge difference to the rest of their education.

Our ECAR also assesses reading levels throughout the school, teaches 'Phonics' (the study of early spelling) and runs writing groups in Key Stage 2.

We have a wonderfully diverse school family, with children fom all over the world and with many needs. Tackling reading, writing and spelling can be challenging, at times, for some of our children.

In the specialist writing groups the children learn to be reporters, story writers and observers of the world. In the reading lessons, the children find the key that unlocks a world of beautiful books.
